pH measures relative acidity or alkalinity of a soil, and reflects the concentration of H+ ions in the soil. The level of soil acidity in cropping systems has a direct affect on nutrient availability and plant growth. The most reliable method of measuring soil pH is in Calcium Chloride.
If the topsoil pH is less than 5.5 you need to check your subsoil pH levels to minimise subsoil acidification.
