pH measures relative acidity or alkalinity of a soil, and reflects the concentration of H+ ions in the soil. The level of soil acidity in cropping systems has a direct affect on nutrient availability and plant growth. The most reliable method of measuring soil pH is in Calcium Chloride.
If your subsoil pH is less than 4.8 you need to check your topsoil pH. Aim to keep your pH above 5.5 to minimise further subsoil acidification.
