The Mingenew-Irwin Group (MIG) formed in 1994 after the Mingenew Land Conservation District Committee (LCDC) and the Irwin LCDC came together to undertake a catchment planning process.
In 1997, it was decided that the core function of MIG was to integrate farm production and landcare and essentially encourage economic and environmentally sustainable agriculture. Hence the mission statement evolved to promote and develop economic and environmentally sustainable agriculture through research, planning, monitoring and demonstrating best practice.
The Mingenew-Irwin Group also works closely with the Dept of Agriculture & Food, W.A. who is a vital source of support, service and information. Many trials are done collaboratively each year. The group also does collaborative work with Elders, CSBP, Syngenta, Bayer Crop Science and Pacific Seeds.
The Group covers approximately 300 000 hectares within the two shires with close to 95 farm businesses being active members. This equates to approximately 95% of farmers in the Mingenew area.
